With the widespread devastation of the Crafts by Nemar's Disease late in the Tenth Interval, many Crafts found themselves in very desperate straits indeed. The traditional boundaries between the Crafts began to blur as Crafters in one discipline had to take up the duties of another, in an attempt to keep things running. Bakers found themselves working as Farmers, in an attempt to guarantee their own ingredients. Archivists at Harper Hall sought out Papermakers amongst the Woodcrafters. Crosscrafting is becoming more and more common, especially at the Unified Crafthall and at Holds and Weyrs, all places where a variety of Crafters can be found.

There are some limits, however. A Crafter choosing to CrossCraft should pick a secondary Craft that in some way relates to his/her primary Craft. He or she must first be a Journeyman before choosing a second Craft. Due to the difficulties inherent in learning more than one trade, it is only possible to attain Masterank in one of the two Crafts.
