Cardiff Hold was founded during the Ninth Pass and the family has long tended to the grassy plains and lurking woodlands of the Hold. Nestled in the midst of the land tract between the Jordan River and the Western Sea, Cardiff is conveniently located to the southeast of Monaco Bay Hold. The hold is renown for its exquisitely bred runners, most especially for farm work and transportation, and the high quality of its fungi farms.

Holder Chellene: Unusually, Cardiff is held by a woman. Tough as nails, rude as sackcloth, Chellene is someone who does not like to have to tell someone twice to get them to do what she asked them the first time. When Cardiff Hold was decimated by the plague, Chellene was the only one of even the mildest whiff of Blood to take on the Hold. While she lost her beauty through the hard work it took to clean the bodies out of the Hold and start putting thing back together, she has the sort of admirable (but scary) indomitable spirit that makes her so beloved of the farming and runner Hold.

Chellene was born, the daughter of the cousin of the previous Holder, an old man named Tendal who was amongst the first to die of the plague, and was expected to simply get married and have loads of babies. She didn't mind such a life, since she found herself a good husband and did indeed have herself half-dozen children before she told her husband that enough was enough. She and her husband adored the runners, and while her husband did gamble a little more than was good for him, there was much love there, and Chellene didn't mind the fact that their family didn't have as much as they ought due to his losses.

Chellene's no-nonsense behavior sprang from four of her six children being somewhat unruly and needing the rolling pin discipline to get them back into line. As she got older, she started being given more responsibility, acquiring more seniority amongst Tendal's staff, and she eventually was one step away from Headwoman when the plague broke out. It was Chellene that kept Cardiff open at all, especially as the healers came to see if any of Cardiff's fungi could be used in medicines to help stop the plague. She's got the brave spirit of someone who will get her hands dirty to get the job done, never asking any of her people anything she wouldn't be willing to do herself.
