Jordan Hold was originally a grouping of cotholds that continued to grow in number. Eventually the banded together to alleviate some of their problems, and elected a Holder from among their number, Mandan who originally hailed from Igen. A new Hold was built during the Ninth Interval that reflected some of the new building techniques, and it continues to grow. Jordan Hold is on the shores of the river that shares its name, south of the Ancient's Plateau, and during the Tenth Interval was home to many Crafters who were assisting with the excavations. Hence, Jordan's Holders were hard hit during the course of the disease, Mandan's descendants being wiped out but for a single infant daughter. Jordan favors a number of crops, and oak trees grow plentiful.

Holder Warder Merien, for Holder Semere: Merien has been a resident of Jordan Hold for his entire life. His family had been closely tied to that of Mandan's descendants for turns. It was only natural that as a child he spent much time with the heir to the hold, young Seden.

When Seden handfasted Amelre, Merien was there as Seden's personal guest. When Amelre and Seden's first child (a boy) was born, Merien was the one waiting outside with the anxious father-to-be. It was to be expected that when Nemar's disease hit the hold, killing Seden, Amelre, and three of their children, that Merien would take it hard.

Unlike his friend, Merien had never been a particularly affectionate or interesting person. He was known for being straightforward and to the point. But turns spent at Seden's side, not to mention his own prowess, left him as the natural choice as the Hold Warder.

Much to everyone's surprise, Merien has taken it upon himself to care for Semere, considering it the last thing he can do for Seden. He is very protective of the infant, and determined to lead the Hold well so that she will have something to inherit when she reaches the proper age.

Merien is a pale man in both skin and hair tone. What was once light brown hair has now begun to fade to gray, thinning as the color changes. His nose is a bit crooked from an old injury. His eyes show the abuse of time, haunted by memories of people and events no longer near. He does not stoop, but stands proudly, an impressive 6'4" tall. He is quite well-built, and could be considered attractive, if one liked older men.
