Karachi Hold was founded during the Ninth Interval whose founder recognized the potential of the flat, vast grasslands. It lies approximately halfway between Drake's Lake and Ierne Island. Only the hottest of summer's turn the grass brown, the water table underneath generally keeping it green turn-round. One of its principal activities is the growing of arable crops, including wheat and other grains, grapes, and tubers. Karachi became the host Hold on the Southern Continent for the Beastcraft during the Tenth Interval, and has its own stock of breeding runners, famed for their speed. There is also a small mine attached to the Hold, yielding high-grade iron, copper, silver, mercury, chromium, lead and vanadium ore.

| Holder Tental: | Tental
is the sixth direct descendant of his Bloodline to take Hold at
Karachi, the eldest son of late Holder Tennim. From birth he was
shaped and directed by his father with two goals in mind: not
only to take over the Holdership, but also to maintain the rather
strict traditions and attitude that old Tennim had held dear.
To this end, he was given increasing responsibilities as he grew
older, duties that many would deem too great a burden for a child.
This sort of training had a dual effect: indeed, Tental became
almost fanatically devoted to Karachi Hold. But he also learned
to bend like a reed in the wind, rather than brace himself and
be broken beneath so great a load. Ironically, he is a better
Holder for it, and his holders agree that he is much more pliant
and enjoyable to work with than his father ever was. Tental took
over administration of the Hold nine Turns before the Pass, when
Tennim had a stroke, and became full Holder two Turns later upon
his father's death. At that point he truly bloomed, freed from
restrictive and outdated policies, and has the respect of holders
and peers alike.
Tental is a quiet man who, though he doesn't easily smile, possesses a sharp sense of humor and an easygoing nature. He is, first and foremost, devoted to Karachi Hold, and there isn't an inch of his land that he doesn't know intimately. His second passion is his family, and he loves his wife, Menirala, with a touching devotion despite the fact that old Holder Tennim arranged the marriage. Tental tends to be rather single-minded in whatever task he's engaged in at the moment, with a penchant for finishing one job before moving on to the next, but with his keen intelligence so focused, rarely is he left on the bad end of a deal. Tental's oldest son suffered an accident at birth, leaving him feeble-minded, his second child, Vershun, is now his heir. Vershun has a scar on his left cheek, which happened by accident in the vineyard. With jet black hair that is kept in a short ponytail at the back, this tall man is lanky and lean at his impressive height of 6'4". A faint hint of early graying at his temples and the lines that furrow his brow make him appear older than he actually is. His thin lips are unaccustomed to smiling, but a love of living can be detected in his warm, deep brown eyes. |
