Malay Hold lies close to ocean and Malay River; it's gentle slopes forming a colorful backdrop. It was founded during the Ninth Interval, but remained small until the Tenth Interval when it was discovered that the land close by grew vines of a superior quality. When the Vintners heard about these new, but rare, wines, they started into negotiations to move the Crafthall to new premises. Mid-Interval the Hall was moved and the Hold expanded rapidly. It wasn't long before Malay was producing a number of new wines of superior quality.

| Holder Givene: | Givene
is the only child of the former Holder. Her mother, a lovely young
woman, died giving birth to Givene. Although her remarried happily,
her stepmother never produced any children. This left Givene as the
only heir to the hold, a position of which she took full advantage.
Like many children thrust into the spotlight, Givene chose to mark her own territory by rebelling. She became heavily involved in drinking and gambling in her teens, even going so far as to run away with a trader caravan at the age of twenty. She was quickly found and brought home. Her father gave her a stern talking-to, but even this didn't seem to have an effect. There was despair in the hold, for most thought it was certain that Givene would ruin the hold when she took over. Her father even looked into making one of her cousins the heir after Givene's habits had still not changed at the age of twenty-five turns. These plans were never finalized, because the Holder died suddenly of a heart attack, abruptly thrusting Givene into the position of Holder herself. It soon became clear that her carousing and rebellious behavior had been a clever guise to make the people expect less of her. It made her effective management of the Hold all the more wonderful in the eyes of the Holdfolk. This does not mean that Givene has entirely given up her old habits. The young Lady Holder is still given to heavy drinking, and at times associates with some of the people on the 'lower tiers' of society. She has the dark brown hair that is typical of the Malay line. In contrast to her hair she has very pale blue eyes, stark against the black of her eyebrows and eyelashes. She edges towards tall, her build slender. She has highly pronounced cheekbones and elegant lips. She appears to be quite beautiful, but her appearance is often offset by her rougher habits. |
