Sadrid Hold was founded during the Ninth Interval and named by it's Holder in honor of his mother's family, of which she was the last. It is located on the coast, and has superb fishing all year round, but only a small, natural harbor -- not large enough for some of the larger Fishing fleets. Numbweed grows in Sadrid, and though not as prolifically as it does upon the Numbweed plains, it is enough to tithe to the Weyr. Sadrid has scores of trees, including orchards that specialize in citrus fruit. Crops, such as many grains, grow here in excesses, although the fields are separated widely in case of a Threadfall accident. The Hold itself is nestled in the base of a small grouping of mountains, making a splendid backdrop when viewed from the sea.

| Holder Pion: | Although Sadrid Hold was not hit terribly hard by the unfortunate outbreak, Holder Pion and his wife Neama endured a painful loss, no less, when the youngest of their seven children, Piama (a greenrider at Southern Weyr), contracted the oft-fatal disease. She perished. Pion has always been the sort to be described as jolly (one filled with laughter and benevolence), and although the man remains ebullient, the impact of his daughter's death has been great. Whereas once he appeared exceptionally young for his age, wrinkles and greyness are creeping upon him. Perhaps it is not Piama's death alone, but the toll of the plague upon all of Pern, that is weighing upon down the man. His every action seems weary -- carrying but a ghost of his past enthusiasm and happiness -- and quiet sadness is ever written within his ice-blue gaze. Yet, he continues to manage his Hold with pride, dignity, and care, while training his eldest son, Nemion, to eventually assume leadership of Sadrid. Although he truly does fight to remain unshaken and strong for his Hold, his withheld sorrow and waning energy can be felt throughout Sadrid. |
