Uppsala Hold was founded during the Ninth Interval on Ierne Island, taking its name from the original Stakehold found here. The Hold is known for its dramatic appearance - the grey stone amid the lush green grass, overlooking the sea. Although smaller cotholds have sprung up around the Hold, the Hold itself remains the center of all the activity in this area hosting regular story nights which seem to have formed a tradition all of their own.

| Holder Jerimian: | Jerimian's
parents had seven children, but Jerimian was the only one to survive
the plague that swept the Southern Continent. 19-year-old Jerimian,
the fourth son of Holder Jerikin and his wife, Mia, was actually at
Ierne Weyr as a Candidate when he had to be called home. Before he left
on Search Jerimian was often described as being bold as brass tacks,
but after the death of his siblings and his mother the bold young man
became much more reserved. His father spent the last few turns of his
life both mourning his destroyed family and trying desperately to train
Jerimian up to the task of being Holder once he was gone. At the age
of 23, Jerimian married Irria, the youngest daughter of a Northern Holder,
over the objections of his father. It was a bone of contention between
the two men for the two Turns the marriage lasted until the young woman
died in childbed giving birth to Jerimian's son. Her death and the arrival
of the even-tempered child healed the rift between father and son. Unfortunately,
Jerikin died only six months later of a lung infection.
By the beginning of the Pass, Jerimian had been Holder of Uppsala Hold for four Turns. He never remarried and his son, Iamir, remains the focus of his life outside of running his Hold. Jerimian's personality is marked by a deep reserve, except in the presence of his son. When Iamir is around Jerimian becomes the bold, good-humored man that he was before the loss of his family and wife. He's an efficient Holder who is responsive to the needs of his holders. His near brush with becoming a rider has left him respectful of the Weyrs and very cognizant of the situation they were left in alongside the rest of the South. Because so many of the people that he'd been close to while at the Weyr are now dead, and Jerimian does all that he can to show his support. This is actually an ongoing bone of contention between him and his Steward, a dour, but skilled man named Sherisk, who has a barely concealed contempt for dragonriders. If it weren't for the man's absolute brilliance at Hold management, Jerimian would have booted him out Turns ago. |
